Christian König is President of ThyssenKrupp
USA, Inc. and head of its Washington, D.C. Office. Born
in Bonn, Germany, he was raised in Belgium, the United States,
Vietnam, the Philippines and Ireland. After a two-year enlistment
in the German Army where he served as deputy platoon leader
in the First Airborne Division, he attended the University
of Bonn and graduated with a Master’s Degree in Political
Science, Public Law, and History.
From 1994-1996, he served as Chief of
Staff for a Member of the German Bundestag (Parliament) in
Bonn and then, from 1996-1999, as Issues Manager for Deutsche
Shell AG in Hamburg. He then worked as Industry and Government
Affairs Coordinator for Eastern Europe and Southeast Asia
for Reemtsma Cigarettenfabriken from 1999-2001 in Hamburg
and as Corporate Spokesperson for ThyssenKrupp AG in Duesseldorf
from 2001-2006. Just prior to his 2008 appointment as Head
of the Washington Office, he served for two years as Vice
President Public Affairs for ThyssenKrupp USA, Inc., in Troy,
Michigan. Christian lives in Montgomery County, Maryland
with his wife and daughter.
