Tom Coleman is Vice President, Government
Relations for BASF Corporation. The company is the North American
operating unit of BASF AG, one of the leading chemical manufacturers
in the world. He is a member of the Board of Directors of
the Organization for International Investment and the Public
Affairs Councel. He is Chairman of the Board of Trustees,
U.S. Capitol Historical Society. He also serves on the Federal
Legislative Roundtable of the American Chemistry Councel and
is a member of the U.S. Business Committee, Transatlantic
Policy Network.
Prior to joining BASF in September 1994,
he had an extensive background in government and public service.
A Member of Congress from 1976 to 1993,
Tom represented a district in Northwest Missouri, including
his home town of Kansas City. During his 16 year career in
the House of Representatives, his interests were in the fields
of agriculture, education, and foreign policy. He served as
Ranking Member of the House Agriculture Committee, where he
developed and coordinated national agriculture policy. As
a senior Member of the Education and Labor Committee, he made
significant contributions to four reauthorizations of the
Higher Education Act and served as trustee of the Harry S.
Truman Scholarship Foundation.
Tom was founding member and Chairman
of the U.S. Congressional Study Group on Germany, an organization
that promotes understanding and the strengthening of ties
between German and American legislators. He currently serves
as the Chairman of its Business Advisory Committee.
After graduating from William Jewell
College with a BA, Tom attended New York University where
he obtained an MPA, and Washington University School of Law
where he earned his JD degree. He is married and has three
daughters.
